Zolonide

Description

Zolonide Nasal Spray is a corticosteroid medication used to treat nasal allergy symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, runny nose, and itching. It works by reducing inflammation in the nasal passages, helping patients breathe more easily. It is commonly prescribed for seasonal allergic rhinitis, perennial rhinitis, and nasal polyps.

Uses

• Relief from seasonal allergies (hay fever).

• Treatment of perennial allergic rhinitis (year-round nasal allergies).

• Reduction of nasal symptoms: sneezing, congestion, runny nose, itching.

• Management of nasal polyps in some cases.

Dosage

• Adults & Children ≥12 years: 1–2 sprays in each nostril once daily (as prescribed).

• Children 6–11 years: Usually 1 spray in each nostril once daily (doctor-directed).

• Not recommended for children under 6 unless prescribed.

• Do not exceed prescribed dose.

How to Use

1. Shake the bottle well before use.

2. Gently blow your nose to clear nostrils.

3. Tilt head slightly forward, insert spray tip, and press down to release the spray.

4. Avoid spraying directly onto the nasal septum (the middle wall of the nose).

5. Wipe nozzle clean after each use and keep cap tightly closed.

Missed Dose

• Use as soon as remembered.

• If close to next dose, skip the missed one.

• Do not double dose.

Overdose

• Overuse may cause nasal irritation, dryness, nosebleeds, or headache.

• Long-term excessive use may increase risk of systemic steroid side effects.

• Seek medical advice if large amounts are used accidentally.

Side Effects

• Common: nasal irritation, dryness, burning, sneezing, headache.

• Occasional: nosebleeds, sore throat, cough.

• Rare but serious: vision changes, severe nosebleeds, allergic reaction (swelling, rash, difficulty breathing).

• May interact with strong antifungal or antiviral medicines (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir).
